Regardless of the level of hand-eye coordination, it is a universally accepted fact that makeup will disappear. And if they do, you’re wondering how to best remove makeup without making the stain worse. We have ingenious solutions to remove makeup stains from your clothes quickly and easily.
Use a Makeup Wipe
Make-up wipes not only work on the face, but can help remove make-up from clothing. This is an old behind-the-scenes trick you sometimes see at fashion shows when makeup artists realize they are wearing something while trying to protect models’ clothes. Solid and functional. Grab one and gently scrub or scrub until the irritating makeup stains are gone.
Rubbing Alcohol
Dip a cotton ball or wipe into the alcohol and scrub the makeup stain with it. Alcohol is particularly effective in removing lipstick stains, as it can break down oily and waxy stains.
Shaving Cream
Who knew shaving cream could fix the stain? Apply a few drops to the stain and leave for ten minutes. During this time, the ointment dissolves the stain. After ten minutes, remove the shaving cream with cold water.
A Blow Dryer
If you use loose powder on your face, you know how much it can irritate your clothes (especially if the powder is light on a dark fabric). Any attempt at cleaning encounters a stained mess that stands out even more than the original dust spots. What are you doing? Get a hair dryer. Blow the dust off the fabric and that’s it.
Hairspray
Who knows? Hairspray can really help you get rid of stubborn lipstick stains. Apply the lacquer to the stain and let it dry. Let the hairspray dry and follow with a damp towel. Note: It will only work if the hairspray contains alcohol. Alcohol-free hairspray does nothing for makeup stains.
Ice, Ice Baby
Take the cube and rub it vigorously on the stain. During the spot treatment, hot water dissolves the stain, while ice (and cold water) removes the stain. Avoid hot water at all costs when trying to get a little speck of makeup. Keep the water warm when you put it in the washing machine.
Soap and Water
If you only have soap and water on hand, you can still try removing makeup stains. Don’t buy paper towel or napkins. Instead, run cold water over the stain and the worst part of the soap. Then rub the fabric against you and let the friction lift the stain. This is a better option than using a paper product because it peels off and leaves small white spots on the fabric that can make the stained area worse, until you wash it properly.
Detergent Pens and Detergent Wipes
Cleaning pens designed to fight stains on the go, like tide to go, offer a quick fix. For best results, wipe excess dirt off the material before applying the pen. Push the tip into the fabric and the cleaning solution will come out. Rub the tip of the cleaning pen on the fabric until the stain begins to peel off. Then remove the excess solution. The cleaning pens are reusable and can be used safely on most fabrics, including those marked “dry clean only”.
Likewise, it’s a good idea to put cleaning cloths like Shout Wipe and Go in your bag or backpack. They work the same way as laundry detergent pens, except that the stain removal solution is soaked in a cloth instead of a pen. They are always useful when you need an instant solution to quickly remove liquid foundation from clothes (and other makeup stains).
