Remove backing from clothing

No beauty routine is complete without a solid foundation, but when it comes to your clothes, they can’t be beautiful. When foundation stains your clothes, act fast and use these steps to remove liquid and powder foundation stains before they get worse.

Liquid makeup foundation

From pigments to oils, liquid foundations often contain a variety of ingredients that can stain fabrics. Liquid foundations are usually made of silicone, water or oil, so let’s discuss the best method for removing foundation from your clothes for all three. All you need is liquid detergent, dish soap, microfiber cloth, paper towel and water.

  • Use a paper towel to remove excess primer, being careful not to spread the stain or press it deeper into the fabric.
  • Rinse the stained area with warm water to dry the primer.
  • If using a silicone or water-based liquid primer, pre-treat the stain with detergent by gently patting the stain into the area with your fingertips.
  • If the stain is oily, rub dish soap and your fingers into the stain to dissolve the oils.
  • Leave the detergent or dish soap on the stain for 20 minutes.
  • If colored garments are machine washable, wash at the maximum temperature indicated on the label.
  • If the clothing is not machine washable, hand wash in warm water.
  • Heat can spread from dryer to dryer, wait for clothes to dry.
  • If the stain is still there, rinse the stain with warm water and repeat the process.

This method works well for cotton and many synthetics, but dry cleaning can be more effective for silk and other delicate fabrics.

Powder stain primer

The powder foundation consists of tiny pigment and mineral particles that can attach themselves to fabric fibers. When treating makeup powder stains, it is important to remove as much product as possible before drying the stain. All you need is liquid detergent, microfiber cloth, paper towel and water.

  • Shake the foundation as often as you can.
  • Gently brush away any residue with a clean makeup brush, being careful not to spread the powder or dig deeper into the fabric.
  • Turn the garment inside out and rinse with warm water.
  • Pre-treat the stain with liquid detergent and a clean makeup brush.
  • Leave the detergent on the stain for up to 20 minutes.
  • Do not interfere with spray, follow garment label directions for rubbing.
  • Dry the garment and if the stain is still visible, repeat the previous treatment and wash.

Remove lipstick from clothing

The pigments and oils in the lipstick bring this essential beauty to life. But lipstick on a new blouse might look awkward, but don’t worry, it won’t last forever. Use oxygen bleach and liquid detergent to remove lipstick from clothing.

  • Use a butter knife to remove the lipstick, being careful not to spread or cover the stain deeper.
  • Pretreat lipstick stains with liquid dish soap by gently rubbing the stain with your finger.
  • If the lipstick is shiny or has been applied to the fabric, use a soft nylon brush to apply the detergent to the fabric.
  • Leave the detergent on the stain for 15 minutes to break down the oil and wax.
  • Oxygen bleach should be used to saturate the stain to remove the dye.
  • If the clothing is machine washable, place it in the washing machine using the hottest water specified on the label.
  • Wear kitchen gloves when washing your hands and rinse the stain with water that is as warm as possible.
  • Skip the dryer, air dry clothes and check for stains.
  • If the stain is still visible, pre-treat and rinse again.
