Cars is one of Pixar’s most popular franchises, and since its inception in 2006, it’s gone through countless sequels, spin-offs, short films, and even TV shows. In this article, we’ll show you how to watch all the Cars movies in order, as well as the Planes sequels.

We’ll also introduce you to the Cars short films and TV series, but we won’t go into details. Let’s take a look at how many Cars movies there are, how to watch them in order, if you really need to watch them in order, and if we can expect more Cars movies in the future.

How many Cars movies are there?

There are currently three Cars movies and two Planes pages. There are also five short films and a TV show. For now, we’ll just focus on movies, but we’ll talk about them later.

It is quite easy to watch the Cars and Airplanes movies in order. All you need to do is track the release date. We’ll sort them as follows below, but we’ll also tell you about each film in a nutshell.

Lightning McQueen is a racing champion, childhood idol and fearless athlete. Although he is extremely confident and arrogant, he doesn’t really know anything about real life, and as a famous runner, he doesn’t let anyone pass him. In the last race, he had an accident that caused two other cars to cross the finish line at the same time. To determine the real winner, the organizers decide to hold one more race at the great California racetrack.

While traveling to his destination in a truck, Mcqueen had an accident and was stranded in a small, neglected village. Desperate, unable to leave because of the damage, he is forced to stay in the village, exploring it with inconspicuous and unsuitable cars, but which he grows to love.

Cars 2 (2011)

Mcqueen and his entire team went on a world tour with their new boss, Mater, to compete in real championships held in five different countries: Japan, Germany, Italy, France and Great Britain. However, Mater soon gets entangled in an identity change case and after rescuing a British secret agent finds himself in the world of international espionage in a completely unexpected way.

Airplane (2013)

Dusty is a vacuum cleaner who dreams of a career as an airplane pilot. But his fear of heights causes problems. Because of all this, he enlists the help of a seasonal flyer to help Dusty reach the challenging championship. Dusty’s mettle is put to the test as he prepares to conquer heights he has only dreamed of until now.

Airplane: Fire and Rescue (2014)

When Dusty Crophopper finds his days in racing numbered due to a technical failure, he has to face the thought that he may never be a racer again. Hungry for adventure and adrenaline, Dusty joins the ranks of veterans; firefighters, including a Lil’ Dipper tanker, a Windlifter helicopter and a full crew of all-terrain vehicles.

Together, they form a team of fearless heroes who protect the wild nature and beauty of the forests and the untouched nature, and in their society, they finally understand what it means to be a hero worthy of admiration.

Cars 3 (2017)

Overrun by a new generation of fast racing cars, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly thrown out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he needs the help of Cruz Ramirez, a hard-working young technician with his own winning plan, inspiration from the old Fabulous Hudson Hornet, and a few unexpected twists. The champion’s heart is tested on the biggest track of the Piston Cup, where it is shown that the number 95 is not ready yet!

Will there be more Cars and Airplanes movies?

Cars 4: The Final Ride is currently in development and is expected to be released in 2022. The future of the Planes movies is not so certain. A third Planes movie was announced to be released in 2019, but the project was canceled. We haven’t heard any news about the Planes movies since then.
