Designer shoe trends 2023
If you usually like ballet flats, low heels, or super heels in general, this summer is all about the platform. “Platforms are this summer’s latest emerging trend. Regardless of the material or style, the customer is drawn to height. Continue into fall toward new materials like patent and fine suede, she notes. Like designer bags, designer shoes are worth the investment.
From Sydney Sweeney’s epic Miu Miu platforms she wore to the MTV Movie Awards this month, to Vanessa Hudgens’ black suede version paired with her Schiaparelli couture dress designed by Daniel Roseberry at last week’s Tony Awards. There isn’t an it girl in Hollywood who hasn’t seen it. that in style this season. Simply put, wedges are timeless; they defy age, length and season, making them one of the most versatile styles to invest in.
From flat sandals by Chloé, The Row and Proenza Schouler to record-breaking heels by Versace, Valentino and Saint Laurent, they’re all about height. We’ve been seeing Mary Jane ballet flats for a while now, and we love that luxury brands are designing heels this season.
“The Mary Jane silhouette has been in fashion since the pre-collection, and we continued to see them on the runway with strong styles from Prada and Bottega Veneta. We’ve always been interested in Mary Janes, and we’re seeing great results from low heels to stilettos,” says Cassie Smart, head of womenswear at Matches Fashion. Night, offering a modern option for the customer who isn’t looking for heels,” adds Smart. .
Along with length and the ever-popular Mary Jane style, there’s a huge push for durability across the board. There is no doubt that there has been a collective emphasis on this topic for the past two years. “The designer, shopper and consumer are all focused on sustainable brands and products that benefit the planet and communities,” Dinneny states.

Different types of designer shoes
- Designer Sneakers: The designer sneakers category is one that grows exponentially from season to season. First, the price is usually lower than most other luxury brand shoe styles. It’s a great way for the consumer to buy a brand name for less than a mortgage payment. Most luxury designers these days don’t just have sneakers, they also focus on trendy sneakers. Every luxury house, from Hermes to Saint Laurent, has sneakers this season, but it’s also important to consider sneaker designer collaborations. The combination of fashion houses and classic sneaker brands in the last five years has fully started. It seems that every designer wants to get in on the action. We saw Marni and Veja working together. Wales Bonner and Adidas have worked together for several seasons, while JW Anderson and Converse, Dior and Air Jordan, Maison Margiela and Reebok, Nike and Off-White have joined forces. We have to mention Gucci’s new Adidas collaboration, featuring delicious candy colors and classic Adidas silhouettes that are sure to be the next It shoes. Suddenly, there is a change in the shoe industry. Now we see that traditional sneaker wearers are not using this trend, while sneaker enthusiasts are also buying designer sneakers quickly.
- Designer Flats: Luxurious ballet flats are a great way to transition from day to night. You’ll find shoes wrapped in satin, leather, patent leather, velvet, embossed animal prints, embellishments, and even versions of one of the season’s hottest materials, PVC. They come in ballet flats, barely-there sandals, Mary Janes, and even the clumsy wide-strap iterations seen by Dries Van Noten and The Row. Designer ballet flats are available in pointed, square and round toes, as well as open and closed. You can also see designer apartments with a barely visible base, wooden bases and flat models. One of the biggest shoe trends that luxury homes have delved into are clogs, which come in both flats and heels. Hermes, Alaia, Celine and Saint Laurent have interpreted the traditional clog this season. Ballerinas are a style that you can really have fun with – you can play with them casually and combine them with a summer hat or glam. These are good options for those of us who juggle a lot of hats and want to run from date to date.
- Designer low-heeled shoes: One of the most popular high-heeled shoes for designer shoes this season is the high-heeled shoes or block heels. This is largely because they tend to be more comfortable than stilettos. Generally, the lower the heel, the longer you can stay in it and be comfortable. They also come in easy-to-wear mules, lace-up versions, slim and baggy Mary Janes, and even the kitten-heeled moccasins seen at Miu Miu and Prada. Jacquemus gave the kitten sandal a sporty look again this season with a chunky shoulder strap that’s pink. A typical low heel is about 1.5 inches.
- Designer heels: “Shoes continue to be the highlight of this season, bringing joy and escapism,” says Smart. In the autumn 2022 fashion shows, the maximalist trend has continued, especially with the return of crystals, pops of color and satin and velvet, Smart adds. With the return of parties, personal events, business dinners and girls’ nights out, you can really make a statement here and let your personality shine. From Versace’s classic Medusa Aevita platform to Saint Laurent’s sexy Tina pumps, we like to think that the higher the heel, the more fun you’ll have. Typically, high heels are 3.5 to 5.5 inches high. They can be found in thin stilettos, caps and platforms. They’re available in classic lace-up versions, also from Jimmy Choo, as well as a multi-buckle style seen on one of today’s hottest footwear brands, Amina Muadd. Her multi-crystal buckle Robyn sandals this season are sexy, feminine and incredibly fun, not to mention flying off the shelves. Slim notes that even the classics of Mach & Mach and Jimmy Choo can be grabbed in a pinch. Off-White’s interpretation of this season’s barely existing sandals trends with versions of bright highlighters, including their Allen sandal, makes us dream of the next occasion we can wear this style. For more drama, opt for metal or patented fabrication.
Storage and care of luxury designer shoes
WWD caught up with David Mesquita, Vice President of Leather Spa, to learn all the tricks you can use to keep your luxury designer shoes looking like new. The first thing to consider is the maintenance of the shoes, especially when it comes to the sole of the shoes. You can extend its life by doing what the shoe spa calls “unique protection”.
We have it in different colors so that it blends perfectly with the original base color,” says Mesquita. Unfortunately, there is no way to protect your heels, but according to Mesquita, it is very important to replace your heels regularly, especially if you notice that they are thinning. Don’t hesitate to take action if your heel starts to show signs of wear. “If you wait too long, the heel lift wears out and you walk on the heel, causing damage, which in turn becomes expensive to repair,” warns Mesquita.
When it comes to the elements, including water and stains, Leather Spa has a repellent recommended for use on leather, suede and textiles. This product acts as a barrier that prevents stains from penetrating deep into the material. If you see a stain, you can easily remove it with this repellent before it soaks into the material. However, this will only work if you rush to remove any stains or marks immediately. Mesquita points out that this method may not work if residue is left in the shoe for days, giving it plenty of time to soak into the fabric.
In addition to shoe maintenance, how you store your luxury designer shoes is equally important to the life of the shoes. “Check your shoes after each use. Then you can remove any dirt, stains or dust that have accumulated during the day. With suede, buff them and scrub away any dirt, stains or dust,” suggests Mesquita. She also recommends using shoe feet and foam toes to help maintain the shape of the boots.
